How can I optimize theme? old version

With Actual Speed, you could speed up your site easily and swiftly more than ever by optimizing image and theme at the same time as this article.
Also, you can choose to optimize your images or themes separately according to your interests and purposes.

In case you reach 1,000 free images limit per month, you could optimize theme only at that time then you could buy more image to continue optimizing image later.
Please check this article for more detail on how to optimize image.

If you only want to optimize theme first. Please follow steps below:

I. Start to optimize

To start to Optimize theme, click on "Let's start" button in Actual Speed

Turn on Optimize theme option only > tick on which technologies that you want to apply to optimize theme, then click on Optimize button

At default, all methods are ticked already.

We use tech methods such as Lazy load image, Minify CSS file, Extract critical CSS, Preload web fonts, Minify Javascript file to optimize your theme. Please refer to this article for more information about technologies we use to optimize theme.

To optimize your theme, simply Swift does create a duplicated theme from your original theme, then apply our code as the above methods on this duplicated theme. We will let you preview all changes/optimization on the duplicated theme before you decide to apply our code and publish changes/optimization on your original theme or not. For more detailed steps on how Swift optimize your theme, please check Theme optimization process.

II. Preview the result and manage optimized theme

Once the Theme Optimization progress has been finished, you will see Theme optimization result in the Detail page of Actual Speed, shows 2 figures including Total file optimized and Total file saved.
Total file optimized: the total number of the optimized files in your theme by the app
Total file saved: the total size of all optimized files in your theme by the app

Below is just an example for both images and theme optimized already before so you would see both Theme Optimization and Image Optimization result.

In case your theme is not published yet and you have not set up to auto publish theme in Auto Setting before, you will see a notification like this picture, it allows you do "Preview", "Publish" or "Delete" updates/changes that you've optimized on your test theme.

If you want to Delete/remove the test optimized theme:
Just click on "Dustbin icon"

Click "Remove" button

Show notice that Remove theme successfully

After the test theme is removed successfully, you won't see the notification to do action for your previous test theme.

On Optimization History, you could overview Time to get log, the number of file in Theme Optimization and/or the optimized image size in Image Optimization, and theme name.

Here's example for both image and theme optimization processed

Optimization history: load 5 latest logs sequentially from the upper to the bottom, and from the newest to the oldest log. If it's over 5 logs, it will jump to the next page.
All logs will be saved within 30 days from the beginning, logs will be cleared automatically after 30 days.

Click on "View detail" tab > click on "Theme" to see the result

From there, you will see all the results in detail about the file number and the optimized size in each method that you have chosen to optimize themes.

Go back to the Detail menu of Actual Speed, you could click on this icon below to open Auto Setting popup to set theme/image optimization automatically.

Or you will see this button on newest design like this.

At the same time, you could also turn on Auto publish theme then Save it, so Theme changes will be auto published into your live theme next time.

Please be noted that Auto Publish Theme will be applied after you publish your current theme.

At default, Optimize image and Optimize theme button is turn off.

After the image or the theme optimization is completed, trigger Auto Optimization popup to ask if the user wants to turn on Auto Optimization
Turn on Auto Optimization in Auto Setting to keep your images and/or themes always to a minimum.
After the user successfully publishes the first theme, there will be a popup to allow user have a preview. So if you turn on Auto Optimize theme already, then you no longer have to preview the theme again next time. The theme will be auto scanned and optimized weekly once you turn on this Auto Optimize theme button

Special note:

If you have run all the optimize tool but your speed score on Google PageSpeed Insight can not increase much, that's because your current theme structure is having specially heavy elements that need a deeper investigation rather than an auto tool.
